Step onto the beachfront that captivated Frank Lloyd Wright and charmed the Martin family, and experience a tour unlike anything else Graycliff offers.
Perched high above the bluff, overlooking Lake Erie, Graycliff was designed to be inseparable from its landscape — the rock, the water, the ancient geology beneath, all becoming one. This special tour, offered in partnership with Penn Dixie Fossil Park & Nature Reserve, pulls back every layer: the history of the land, the science of the cliff, and the architectural vision that made Wright one of the greatest architects ever.
The two-and-a-half-hour tour begins where Wright began, with the land itself. Guests will explore the grounds and first floor of the main house through a geological lens, examining the locally harvested materials Wright specified for Graycliff’s construction and how the site’s natural history shaped every decision he made. Then, after a short break, the tour descends to the private rock beach at the base of the cliff, a vantage point available on no other tour, where you’ll hunt for rocks and fossils and witness the geological forces still actively shaping the landscape today.
Your ticket also includes a pass to visit Penn Dixie Fossil Park & Nature Reserve during the 2026 season, only 15 minutes away! There 54 acres of fossil-rich terrain are yours to dig, discover, and keep whatever you find.

Graycliff was built between 1926 and 1931 as a summer retreat for Isabelle R. Martin, wife of Buffalo industrialist Darwin D. Martin and key patron of Frank Lloyd Wright. The landscape, designed by Wright and pioneering landscape architect Ellen Biddle Shipman, features garden rooms, lake views, and a perennial garden cultivated for continuous blooms and Isabelle’s floral arrangements.
Join us for the Home & Garden Tour, a 90-minute Docent-led experience covering the history and rehabilitation of the grounds, Shipman’s landscape design, and the first floor of the main house.
